Holding Your Composure
I have made it through the first 5 weeks of prep! I am currently 7 weeks out from the Greater Gulf States in New Orleans, I have my flight and room booked! I had a very rapid start to my prep and then of course a bit of a hurdle, but that is ok because without life’s downs being called “hurdles” there would be nothing to get over! My body was being a bit unresponsive for about a week and a half, but this happens every prep. Now I am going through the low energy phase. I am pushing through and still killing it in the gym. This is the time where we, competitors, have to be able to hold our composure. Every prep has its ups and downs and when you are going through a down, you can’t wear it on your face!
This is especially important if your job forces you to be motivating for others, which is what I do on a daily basis. I LOVE my job and I LOVE my clients! This makes it easier for me to hold my composure when all I feel like doing is laying down and getting off my feet. I am not going to sit here and talk about how long my days are and how busy I am. We are all busy and honestly I can’t stand when people tell me how hard their lives are and expect me to sympathize, remember we choose to live our lives the way we live them. If you aren’t happy then it is time to make some changes. Always remember, someone else has it much worse than you! So the next time you feel like ranting about how many hours you put in at work, then the gym and whatever else it is you are doing, think about changing your tone and words into something more positive.
I take life one day at a time. I am overall a very happy person, very social and energetic, but there are days where I am a little quieter than others, however, I still wear a smile and keep a very positive attitude during prep and my off-season. People don’t care if you are tired, they want what they are paying for and my clients need me to have energy, excitement and pep in my step, at all times! I had a member approach me today and commend me on being one of the few trainers that always, and yes, he said “always” appears very in tune with my clients and their needs and is also energetic! Little does he know how exhausted and sluggish I was feeling, but I keep my composure, regardless of the situation! Trust me, I have not always been this way, I have practiced this for some time and finally, I am understanding this important concept and it seriously makes life much more enjoyable!
Thanks,
Jessica Jordan

That was a really helpful post Jessica! I am only 2 weeks out now from my FIRST bikini competition. I'm nervous and having doubts along the lines of: am I REALLY good enough to stand up on stage in a bikini? I appreciate hearing from other competitiors who sometimes struggle and are tired too. It makes me feel less alone! Thanks for your blog :-) Mine is at: http://katiedsullivan.blogspot.com/ if you get a chance to look at it! I'd be honored!
Thanks Katie and YES I will absolutely check you out ;) Thanks for posting and best of luck to you in your comp!
Thank you for posting this blog Jess! You do such a great job at holding your composure. I can only imagine how tough it must be at this point in your prep and how exhausted you must feel. Your such a strong woman and like I've said before, a true inspiration. Keep up the hard work, you look great and YOU ARE GOING TO GO PRO this time around! So excited for you girl :-)
Thank you so much Jess for the kind words! You are so sweet and an amazing woman yourself!
Great article! All of us competitors need to remember to keep our composure...especially when we are depleted of energy before a competition. Love your blog!
That's so important to stay positive and upbeat. If you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen right? my boss told me he was very impressed at how much energy i still had, even a week out from my competition. but my clients NEED it. i just have to make sure I have food every 2 hrs!
